Description of the Program:
Department of Nursing, Hangzhou Normal University is one of the nursinginstitutions with longest history in China, with nearly 100 years of nurse-trainingexperience. A 4-year course of study is designed for students to gain the knowledgeand skills in nursing field. Focus is given to the training of students’ innovation,critical thinking, problem solving and professional development. Certain training isalso provided in nursing leadership and administration, teaching and research.Bachelor of Nursing in Science (for international students) degree will be awarded onsatisfactory completion of the course. Graduates will be eligible to take the nationalcertifying examination to become a registered nurse. Graduates would be capable ofdelivering safe and competent care in many areas of nursing practice. They shoulddemonstrate nursing care that is informed, evidence based and respectful. Nursing isone of the most diverse health professions and provides employment opportunitiesnationally and overseas, in general and specialist areas and in areas of health carebeyond the traditional hospital ward.

Ⅰ. Overall Structure
The program consists of two semesters and 16 weeks in duration per annum.Intakes will occur in September. Block periods of study will be followed by blockperiods of practice (see Table 2). Each 16 contacting hours convert to 1 credit point. Theration between contacting hours and self-directed learning hours are 1: (1-2). Coursecoordinators are bilingual faculties. The balance of theory/practice in each intake hasbeen carefully considered. This will facilitate best use of resources and avoid overload ofclinical practice areas and the teaching workload. It should be noted that students willwork 32 hours per week in practice, which enables overseas students to reflect on theclinical learning and consult with clinical tutors.

Ⅱ. Learning and Teaching Methods

High-fidelity patient simulation will be systematically used to enable students todevelop confidence in their practice skills within a safe and controlled environment.Case study will be integrated to offer students the opportunity to rehearse and enhancepsychomotor skills.

Practice Placements
The school collaborates with three key hospitals for theprogramme, and these hospitals have qualified clinical mentorfor overseas students. These placement areas are selected andmonitored with caution to achievement of the learning outcomes. The need for care to bedelivered using research and evidence based practice is a coreaspect of the curriculum. Awareness of this will be endorsedthrough the increase in the amount of time academic staff willspend in the clinical area, working collaboratively with clinicalmentors in guiding and helping students.
Academic support for students / mentors in placements
A personal tutor will be named as Clinical Practice Facilitator for a group ofstudents, in every placement, throughout the program. Clinical Practice Facilitatorswill meet regularly with their students individually and in groups when they are intheir practice placement areas. Two hours per student, per semester has been allocatedfor teaching/ facilitation of learning in the clinical area.
Assessment of practice
Assessment of practice will consist of 40% grading ofoverall performance. Each department will assess the theoreticaland practical performance. Students must pass both componentsto pass the unit.

IV. Main Internship and Practice
Including Clinical Practice in Semester Ⅲ, Ⅳ,Ⅴ, Ⅵ, Graduation Practice andGraduation Thesis.

V. Length of Schooling, Degree and Credits Requirements forGraduation

1.Length of Schooling:The length of schooling is flexible, generally it lasts fouryears. The students can graduate one year in advance or within six years

3.The Graduation Credits:1444.Pass HSK 4 (new format) (score 180)

VI.The curriculum and distribution of credits
1. Curriculum: Teaching is composed of theoretical and practical teaching. Corecourses are compulsory, and students may choose some elective courses from otherdepartments, which is not compulsory.

Note: Students who have passed HSK3(new format) will be exempt from Elementary Chinese,Elementary Chinese Listening and Speaking; Students who have passed HSK4(new format) willbe exempt from Elementary Chinese, Elementary Chinese Listening and Speaking, IntermediateChinese, Intermediate Chinese Listening and Speaking. Those students can get the credits ofcorresponding courses after confirmation.
